Computers, Internet, Printing & Photocopying

Computers & Tablets/Laptops

With a library card, patrons are able to use library desktop computers and tablets/laptops. All computers and tablets/laptops have access to the Internet, Microsoft Office and USB ports. With tablets/laptops, a read‑only DVD drive is available to checkout.

Computer & Tablet/Laptop Sessions

  • Use of a computer is available with a library card. Those without a library card can sign up for one or present any form of identification at the service desk to obtain a courtesy guest pass.
    • Computer sessions are available in 60-minute increments and in 15-minute increments on Express Computers.
    • Computer sessions at the UHealth | Jackson Station Library Kiosk are limited to one 15‑minute session per person per day.
  • Reservations must be made in person and can only be made for the current day.
  • Desktop computers stop accepting reservations 20 minutes prior to the branch closing and will shut down automatically 10 minutes prior to closing.
  • Tablets/laptops are for in-library use only and shut down automatically 30 minutes prior to the branch closing. 
    • Tablets/laptops must be returned before the branch closes.

All branches, except the UHealth | Jackson Station Library Kiosk, have at least one public computer station with a scanner that is free to use. Scanned documents or images can be emailed or saved to a USB flash drive.


Internet

All branches offer free Wi‑Fi for visitors to use on their personal wireless‑enabled laptop or device.

Hardware Requirements

  • A Wi-Fi device compliant with IEEE standards 802.11b\g\n\ac\ax hardware installed in your laptop, netbook, tablet or mobile device.

Software Requirements

  • A web browser, such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari. (All proxy settings must be disabled.)
  • Set your TCP client software to obtain addresses automatically from a server. (Configure TCP/IP software by accessing the network preferences of the device. Under Protocol settings, add TCP/IP. Set the IP address to obtain an IP address automatically. Leave all other fields blank. In some cases, restarting the device may be required for changes to take effect.)

Federal Trade Commission: Privacy, Identity and Online Security
Users need to be considerate and refrain from displaying materials that those around them might reasonably consider objectionable. Users must abide by the Miami‑Dade County Liability Disclaimer and User Agreement . Anyone who violates these rules may be asked by staff to leave the premises. Library staff may ask for assistance from the local police department if needed to enforce these rules.

Printing

  • All library computers, including tablets/laptops, are able to print.
  • Print jobs will remain in the system for 24 hours.
  • There is a free courtesy limit of 25 combined print/copy pages available per day.
  • Any print/copy pages beyond the 25-page limit are 10¢ per additional page.
  • With the Mobile Printing service, patrons can submit documents to print from any internet-connected device to various branches, even from remote locations.
